Tarba Vitalia Collection
Intarsio
The name indicates those pieces of Italian furniture featuring a neoclassical line, to be found mostly in Northern Italy and attributable to the style and production of the famous Lombard cabinet-maker, Giuseppe Maggiolini.
The maggiolino, or rather “Maggiolini style furniture piece” (Nineteenth Century inlaid furniture), is set apart from the rest thanks to the pyramidal supports and the essential structure, decorated with inlaying featuring plant-based, landscape-related or ribbon-like motifs. In his inlays, Giuseppe Maggiolini used more than eighty different wood essences. It is in this very art of inlay that the Lombard Neoclassicism finds its most typical and precious expression, thanks also to the contribution of master cabinet-makers that take their inspiration from Maggiolini’s work.
